As I listened to the relaxation exercise I found that the music was very helpful in initiating relaxation in me.
Also, as I directed the blood flow & thought the suggestions I found that the results were nearly immediate and my arms and hands became so heavy and warm I was reminded of heavy wet blankets coming out of the drier that is how heavy my arms/hands got. It was very pleasant and when I was asked to try and lift my hands I found I just didn't have any desire too do it and the deep relaxation in each arm-hand would not move from it's state of 'laziness' it was so nice to feel this relaxed.
When the exercise ended and I was asked to return the blood back to it's original place in my abdomen I could feel the rush and subsequent chill as a result of the departure of blood it was pretty awesome!
The warmth was there still yet it was much cooler than when it was filled with all that warm liquid that it caused me to literally shiver. My arms are still relaxed as I type this out. I found this to be a great relaxation exercise.
I have to add I am no stranger to using visualization in obtaining relaxation and that is most likely why I had such great results. I am the only person I know (of my family & friends) who has used visualization. I have used visualization to 'freeze' my body and when my husband felt my skin he wanted to get me a blanket! lol So I know it works!
Great exercise!
Liz, have you ever used visualization to heal yourself? I had a teacher of Metaphysics who took us through a guided visualization where we entered our body in a submarine through the third eye and visualized our way through it looking for inflammation or anything that didn't look quite right sending healing colors to those locations. I must admit I do not do this often eneough.
ReplyDeleteWhen you visualize what are you seeing? I have not had to much luck with mediation, I only get a relaxed feeling. I think that I am missing something and maybe it is visualization. I would like to know more about this, if you have any suggestions. I know everyone has different results but I know my results could be heightened with experience.

Thanks Gail & Jodi for your comments. I find that I have the best results when I use creative visualization for relaxation rather than healing. I would love to learn more about creating visualizations for healing. I believe it is a practical skill that should be utilized allot more! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Visualizing healing is something becoming more accepted in some traditional areas of medicine. When Dad was undergoing cancer therapy (radiation), he was instructed to visualize the treatment eliminating each cancer cell. That evening he was supposed to continue the visualization imagining the cancer cells withering and dying, as weeds do when sprayed with weed killer. He is using only this technique (and prayer) on his current cancer as radiation or chemo cannot be utilized. Mom encourages him to follow through with this activity. She uses prayer and visualization to help open her hands on bad days (arthritis). She says she offers thanks before beginning and focuses on receiving the touch she knows she will receive. If you hold her hands, you can feel the warmth spread through her hands and fingers. She then again gives thanks and goes about her business. If people in their 80s can do this, the younger generation should be able to greatly improve a lifetime of wellness.
ReplyDeleteDianna,
ReplyDeleteThat is great. I am glad you shared the type of visualization they used with me. I learn so much from others and this way when a loved one or even myself falls ill I can lend a hand to the healing process for myself & others. I am glad your parents are so open to alternative therapies such as visualization! Liz
